The Mud Club x dayze bonkers for conkers tips + hacks!

It takes us triple the time to walk home from school as we have to stop and collect bucket loads of conkers! We keep finding them in jackets, pockets, bags, and shoes. It’s such a fun thing to do with the kids (if you’re not in a rush). But what on earth do you do with the bizmillion conkers you now have in your house?

We asked Clare, owner of our fave outdoor muddy, messy, sensory and water play group, The Mud Club in Warwick, for her top tips and ideas. You’re welcome!

  • Conker rolling: Grab different sizes/lengths of pipe and roll them down for hours! We’ve even tried it with our trusty Speed Track (such a great gift for kids).

  • Counting + size sorting: Make it more fun with a set of kitchen tongs.

  • Roll them in paint in a tray like a marble effect: Feeling brave for messy play at home? Then try this and join in!

  • Weigh the conkers: Grab the kitchen scales and let them weigh and sort to their hearts content.

  • Mud kitchen items: Pop them in the outdoor mud kitchen and ask them to make you a “delicious” mud cake.

  • Play noughts + crosses: Draw X and 0 on the conkers and play inside or out.

  • Art time! Get the kids to draw or paint little faces on them.

  • Pierce holes in and thread them: Might not be the easiest or quickest thing to do, but fun!

  • Tuff Tray: Create an Autumn tray or draw different lines on a tuft tray and let them line the conkers up on the lines.

  • Spell out their names: Or words using the conkers.

  • Play hide and seek: Hide the conkers and get the kids to find them. Any you don’t find will apparently keep the spiders at bay (until they go mouldy at least!)

Why we love The Mud Club for a family dayze out…

We’ve taken our little ones here for years and a place we always recommend to friends and family. Here’s why:

  • Parking is easy and the play area is safe and secure, so the kids can’t run off!

  • It is suitable for children who are able to sit up unaided/pull themselves up to around 5 years old, but older kids can go in the holidays.

  • The outdoor play areas are so well thought out, curated and most importantly… FUN! There’s a wide range of creative activities in our very spacious play space. Mud Kitchen, role play, messy play, water play, sensory play, small world, construction, physical play, and more.

  • While the kids play, you can buy a coffee and snack from the on site ‘Muddy Cup’.
