Summer is here!

We’ve made it to the summer holidays, which means travels and sunny adventures are just around the corner. Whether it’s a trip to the local park (picnic packing is an underrated art) or abroad, here are some hacks that will make your journeys as smooth as possible - and keep the kids entertained, too.

The best toys and activities for travelling with kids

We love toys that are light, easy to pack or toss in the carry-on, or better yet - disappear at the end of the trip. Here are some of our favourite toys and activities to pack for when we’re traveling with our kids. (And they’re all under £10!)

The Infamous (Free) Airplane Ice Cube Game

After the kids have devoured their snacks and gotten bored of their toys, this is the game that always keeps them busy for at least 10 minutes. Ask your friendly flight attendant for one cup of ice, another empty cup, and a spoon.

Pull down the tray table in front of your little one, and have them count the cubes, and then spoon each ice cube one cup to the other. Little ones will find this endlessly fascinating, while older ones love playing ice cube basketball (this works best going from one tray table to the other!).

Best airport hacks

  1. Travel with an empty reusable water bottle. There are refill stations in most airports, so they’re easy (and inexpensive) to refill. We love these Klean Kanteen bottles with a sports top, so it’s easy for the kids to drink up and stay hydrated.

  2. Pack a tote bag in your carry-on for an easy way to carry for those unexpected purchases in the airport shops. (No judging; we love Duty Free!)

  3. Use Stasher bags for the kids’ travel snacks. Once the food has disappeared, the bags lay flat and easily slot into bags, backpacks, and carry-on luggage. Plus, you can wash and reuse them (bonus sustainability points there).

  4. No time to go to Boots before the flight? Order ahead to big airports and your order will be there waiting for you once you pass through security. (It’s a godsend from Heathrow!)

  5. Check ahead for kids play areas in your terminal, especially if you have a layover. It gives the kids space to safely run around, and you can sip your coffee in peace.

Bonus tip: If you’re traveling around by car, use the Waze map app, which will give you all the latest traffic updates and quicker routes in real time.
